It seems like something recent, but the truth is that six years have passed since one of the darkest days in the history of Sporting, when a group of fans organized an attack on the Alcochete academy, on May 18, 2018.

The team then coached by Jorge Jesus did not resist the effects of a defeat in Madeira, against Marítimo (2-1), canceling the possibilities of playing in the Champions League the following season, and then ending up concentrating on the final of the Portuguese Cup, against Desportivo de Aves, to whom they would lose the trophy in Jamor (2-0) five days after the unfortunate episode.

On a day of great panic in Alcochete, several players were assaulted and the case made 'a lot of ink run' to identify the perpetrators of the event, including the name of Bruno de Carvalho, then president of the Alvalade emblem, being associated with the violence scandal, which was talked about all over the world.

The truth is that, in addition to the unilateral termination of players such as Rui Patrício, Rafael Leão, Gelson Martins and Daniel Podence - recalling that Bruno Fernandes also did so, but went back -, Bruno de Carvalho would end up being dismissed by the members, giving way to the election of Frederico Varandas, in September 2018.

In about six years, Sporting has rebuilt and won two championships (2020/21 and 2022/23), a Portuguese Cup (2019/20), a Super Cup (2018/19) and three League Cups (2018/19, 2020/21 and 2021/22), with four of these conquests having happened in the 'reign' of Rúben Amorim - all this in addition to the several presences in the Champions League.

It should be noted that, still this season, the lions are trying to achieve the much desired 'double', and to add the Portuguese Cup to the I League conquered, they will have to defeat FC Porto in Jamor, on May 26.
