Rio Ferdinand returned on Wednesday to point the finger at Manchester United, the club he represented for much of his career, this time with regard to the transfer policy that has been followed.
In an interview with the podcast 'The Sports Agents', the former English international (who now works as a sports commentator) argued that the Red Devils have only got three of the dozens of reinforcements acquired right over the last decade, and two of them are... Portuguese.
"When you look at the recruitment, I think there's only three players that I can think of that have come in and you think 'OK, they've played to the level that you would expect them to play at. Bruno [Fernandes], Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]", he said.
"They are the only three players that I think I have seen consistently do what you would expect them to do. Everybody else has fallen short. For whatever reason, they just haven't hit the standards that you would expect them to hit", he added.
