Benfica is the test that Luís Freire's historic season at Rio Ave is missing

The Estádio dos Arcos will host a clash between Rio Ave and Benfica next Friday, which will put an end to a diametrically opposed season for both clubs, as far as their ambitions are concerned.
If, on the one hand, Roger Schmidt's men will bid farewell to 2023/24 'only' with the conquest of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, the result of campaigns below expectations in the I Liga, the Taça de Portugal, the Taça da Liga and the European competitions, the team led by Luís Freire did what it had never done before.
All things considered, whatever happens against the 'Encarnados', the team from Vila do Conde knows, in advance, that this will be the national championship season with the fewest defeats in its history (at the moment, only one, against Famalicão, by 2-1).
In addition, the team is already in its longest unbeaten streak ever in the I Liga (11 consecutive games), taking into account that, since the turnaround of the campaign, it has not lost to any of the top6 teams (Sporting, FC Porto, Sporting de Braga, Vitória SC and Moreirense).
To this, we must add the fact that Rio Ave has the second best defense in the second half of the season (14 goals conceded, two more than the champion, Sporting), all this under the orders of the youngest coach in the competition (38 years old).
From a personal point of view, he has been at the helm of the Vila do Conde team for 1,051 days, during which time he has played 117 games. In this regard, the outstanding leadership continues to belong to Carlos Brito, with 364 matches.
