Vitória SC's governing bodies accuse Álvaro Pacheco of wanting to "clean up his image"

The general assembly board, the fiscal council and the jurisdiction council strongly defend, in a statement, dismissing any attempt by the 52-year-old coach to "claim to be the guardian of" the Vitorian interests, "for lacking status or legitimacy for that purpose", after having announced a criminal complaint against António Miguel Cardoso "for himself, but also for the Vitorians", in a statement issued on Wednesday.

"Mr. Álvaro Pacheco wants, but without success, to use Vitória Sport Clube, and its members and supporters, with the clear intention of cleaning up an image tarnished by his own inadequate conduct and uncontrolled ambition", refers the statement signed by the presidents of the general assembly board, Belmiro Pinto dos Santos, of the fiscal council, Ricardo Lobo, and of the jurisdiction council, João Henrique Faria.

The representatives of the Guimarães club also stated that they strongly dismiss "any attempt" by the coach to "claim to be the guardian of Vitória's interests, in any instance, for lacking status or legitimacy for that purpose", in the same paragraph in which they wish him luck in his next project, at the service of Vasco da Gama, a Brazilian club to which he has been associated.

Through his press office, Álvaro Pacheco considered that the statements by the Vitorian president, made during a press conference to explain his departure from the technical command, attack his "honour and good name" and the "connection, dedication and commitment" that he established with the club in seven and a half months of work.

Despite claiming respect for the little more than seven months at the service of the Guimarães club, the three social bodies stressed that Álvaro Pacheco "had never before held any position or assumed any position in private or public that could distinguish him as a Vitorian".

The representatives of Vitória also criticised the mentions to "dedication and commitment", principles that, in their view, were violated when he "risked participating and publicising a business dinner" held on 29 April with the leaders of Cuiabá, a Brazilian club that was interested in hiring him, and failing to attend "an event with the players of the football team in a fundamental period for the Vitorian sports aspirations".

In Wednesday's press conference, António Miguel Cardoso said that Álvaro Pacheco was authorised to meet with Cuiabá leaders, as long as it was "in a confidential manner", something that, in his view, did not happen given the disclosure of the meeting by the Lisbon restaurant where it took place.

The Vitorian president even considered it "surreal" that the coach "failed to attend a club event to meet with leaders of another club in a restaurant" and invited Álvaro Pacheco to "apologise" for his conduct.

The general assembly board, the fiscal council and the jurisdiction council accept as "true all the facts listed" during the press conference and declare "expressly the institutional support to the management and personally to its president, António Miguel Cardoso".
