In Bangkok, where the 74th Congress of the world football governing body is taking place, Fernando Gomes, accompanied by Pedro Rocha and Faouzi Kekjaa, presidents of the Spanish and Moroccan federations, respectively, met with the UEFA leader, the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, with the aim of promoting the joint candidacy.

The three leaders also met with the leader of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf), the general secretary of the Asian Football Confederation and the presidents of the three federations responsible for organizing the next World Cup, in 2026, in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"The incentive we have received, the words of appreciation and support, the level of knowledge that everyone has shown about our candidacy have been surprising (...). We want to involve as many federations as possible in this process, letting them know what we are going to present to FIFA", explained Fernando Gomes, quoted by the candidacy's press office.

The top representatives of the three federations that will host the 2026 World Cup, the first to be expanded to 48 teams, shared the "experience at a technical and bureaucratic level and all the path already taken since they presented their candidacy, in 2017".

"We cannot close ourselves off to our ideas and our ambitions regarding what we want to present in our candidacy dossier, it is important to hear the experience of others regarding similar processes in the past, the expectations they have and the advice they can give us", said António Laranjo.

Portugal, Spain and Morocco will host the 2030 World Cup, FIFA announced in October last year.

Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will also host three matches of the 2030 World Cup, as a way to celebrate the centenary of the competition, whose first edition took place in Uruguay, in 1930.
