The 74th FIFA Congress, which is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, will discuss the adoption of specific sanctions for racism, distinct from other offenses, including the automatic loss of games and the introduction of a universal regulatory gesture through which players will report racist incidents.

The proposal for unified action that will be presented by the organization on Friday aims to make racism a specific offense, to be mandatorily included in the disciplinary codes of each of FIFA's 211 member federations.

FIFA plans to introduce a universal gesture for players to communicate racist incidents to the referee, as well as the creation of a panel of retired footballers to advise and monitor the implementation of the proposed measures.

Actions on the pitch include the interruption and the temporary or permanent suspension of games in case of racism. The initiative published by FIFA and sent to the federations, with the “ambition” of uniting to “face racism”, is based on five pillars that refer to regulations and sanctions; actions on the pitch, criminal proceedings, education and a joint attitude of the footballers.
