Rui Costa denies having embezzled funds from Benfica: "I have always been loyal"

After news emerged in the national press alleging that Rui Costa had misappropriated funds from Benfica, the club's president wrote a statement, published on the official website.
In it, Costa denies having misappropriated any funds and promises to have always been "loyal" to the club. "I do not accept insinuations or statements of improper conduct, or of colluding with anything illegal," he adds.
Read Benfica's statement:
"In light of the news published today, I totally reject having had any knowledge or involvement in any alleged plan to misappropriate funds from Benfica or Benfica SAD, whether through player negotiations or in any other way. I have always been, and am, totally loyal to Benfica, and I do not accept insinuations or statements of improper conduct, or of colluding with anything illegal," he begins by saying.
"As the current President of Benfica and also by virtue of my duties as executive director during the period under investigation, I provided the Authorities with all the clarifications I was capable of, according to my knowledge, and I will always be available to do so"
