Official: Spartak Moscow signs Serbian Dejan Stankovic
45-year-old Serbian Dejan Stankovic, a legend as a football player for Inter Milan and Hungarian league champion at the helm of Ferencvaros, will coach Spartak Moscow next season, the Russian club announced today.

The announcement of the signing of Stankovic, who also coached Red Star (Serbia) and Sampdoria (Italy), comes two days after Spartak's elimination at the hands of the modest Baltika in the semi-finals of the Russian Cup.
Spartak's current coach is Russian Vladimir Slishkovich, who replaced Spaniard Guillermo Abascal in mid-April, who was dismissed due to poor results.
Spartak, who have Portuguese defender Tomás Tavares (ex-Benfica) in their squad, are currently fifth in the league, although they cannot compete in European competitions due to the exclusion of Russian football because of the war in Ukraine.
With Abascal on the bench, the team finished third last season, in a championship won by the 'all-powerful' Zenit. Spartak have only won one league (2017) and one Russian Cup since 2003.
