Al-Khaleej drew 1-1 at home to Al-Ittihad on Friday, on matchday 28 of the Saudi Arabian championship, meaning that the team coached by Pedro Emanuel is now practically guaranteed safety.
Just before half-time, Al Shanqiti put Jota's team, the former Benfica player, ahead in the 45+3rd minute, prompting a reaction from the Portuguese coach's team in the second half.
With Pedro Rebocho, Fábio Martins and Ivo Rodrigues all starting the game, it was the latter, the former FC Porto player, who would assist Sherif for the equaliser in the 81st minute.
With this result, Al-Khaleej are 11th in the table with 37 points, while Al-Ittihad are outside the qualifying places for the Asian competitions, in fifth place with 51 points.
