"I would like Schmidt to stay at Benfica, but if the best thing is to leave..."
Chiquinho admits that the season did not go "as expected" for the reds.

It's been almost half a year since Chiquinho left Benfica for Olympiacos. However, the midfielder continues to follow the club closely, and in an interview given on Friday to Sport TV, he confessed that the current season did not go "as expected".
"I was there for the first six months, and we really wanted things to go well. We even started in the best way, winning the Super Cup, but for one reason or another, things didn't go the best way. All seasons are important for us to reflect on", he began by saying.
"When you win, not everything is bad, and when you lose, you can't just see the bad part. I believe that the team learned a lot from this lost season, it is in these moments that it is necessary to turn things around. It is working on the mistakes to have a great season", he said.
The 28-year-old player also came to the defense of coach Roger Schmidt: "I'm biased, I have a special affection for the coach, I like the way he works. I only have good things to say about him, and obviously, I wish him the best".
"I don't know what's going to happen. I'd like him to stay, but if it's best for him to leave, so be it. I wish him the best, that he has a lot of success", he added, before stressing that, in a club "like Benfica", "criticism" is normal.
"There is no margin for error. When the criticism goes as far as throwing bottles or calling names... Everyone is subject to criticism, and it is important, but too much of it is not good for the club. Benfica is very big and has a lot of people talking about it", he concluded.
