"Expectations are high and the spirit is very good. We are preparing well for the first match and we want to go all out. Spain likes to have the ball a lot, to spend a lot of time in possession, but we managed to put pressure on them. I think we will be able to come out on top," said the Benfica player, speaking to the media of the Portuguese Football Federation.

The national under-17 team trained today for the first time in Cyprus, on a training ground in Ayia Napa, where the Portuguese team is staying and preparing for their first challenge, against Spain, on Tuesday.

"We have already analysed them. Their midfielders have the ability to often progress. However, we also have very strong points. We have quality in transitions, we know how to explore the opposite side well, our wingers and forwards are good one-on-one, our full-backs have a good ability to help offensively, our midfielders can keep up. We believe that we will be successful," he said.

Portugal is in Group D and the first match will be against the Spanish, on Tuesday. The matches against England, on Friday, and against France, on May 27, will follow.

The top two teams in each group in the competition will qualify for the quarter-finals, scheduled for May 29 and 30. The semi-finals will be played on June 02 and the final is scheduled for June 05.
