Another edition of the I League has come to an end, with the highlight being that Sporting was crowned as the new national champion, for the 20th time in its history. The party took place in Alvalade, this Saturday, with a triumph against Desportivo de Chaves (3-0), although the first celebrations took place on the penultimate day, at Marquês de Pombal, due to the distance to their rival Benfica.
Roger Schmidt's team was unable to retain the title won about a year ago and closed the championship with a draw against Rio Ave (1-1), making 80 points, ten behind Rúben Amorim's team's 90, still aiming for direct access to the Champions League due to the outcome of the Europa League final, between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen. The team from Braga ended the season with 68 points, qualifying for the preliminary rounds of the aforementioned European competition. Closing the range of clubs qualified for European competitions is Vitória SC. Due to their fifth place (secured a long time ago), and after having 'smelled' the podium, the team from Guimarães resisted four (!) coaching changes and achieved the best score in their history (63 points), confirming their access to a place in the preliminary rounds of the Europa Conference League.

From Europe to the relegation places, we also pass by Moreirense (55 points), Arouca (46), Famalicão (42), Casa Pia (38), Farense (37), Rio Ave (37), Gil Vicente (36) and Estoril (33), to which are added the most recent and last saved Estrela da Amadora (33) and Boavista (32). To the already 'condemned' Desportivo de Chaves (23 points) and Vizela (26 points), Portimonense may still join, who obtained the same 32 points as the checkered team, but whose victory against their rival Farense (1-3) was not enough to escape the playoff spot - this on a day when Estrela da Amadora defeated Gil Vicente (1-0) and Boavista drew against Vizela (2-2) at the end of the game. It should be recalled that, in the accounts of the II League, it is already known that Santa Clara and Nacional - teams from the Azores and Madeira, respectively - will be part of the 'cast' of the main echelon of Portuguese football next season, which can still be joined by AVS or Marítimo. The two clubs will still discuss the podium of the second division this Sunday and the winner will face Portimonense in the playoff, with a view to accessing the I League.
