Carlos André Gomes, president of Marítimo, slapped a fan on Sunday night, who was asking for the resignation of coach Fábio Pereira and the manager himself. It all happened at Cristiano Ronaldo airport, in Funchal.

The Madeirans were returning home after having tied their visit to Académico de Viseu, a result that prevented the islanders from going to the I Liga access playoff. According to images from RTP Madeira, the fan was yelling at coach Fábio Pereira, demanding "if you're a man, resign; it's a disgrace that you're from Marítimo".

Carlos André Gomes came to the coach's defense and the fan also asked for his resignation: "And you too". The president of Marítimo couldn't contain himself and responded with a slap, being immediately pulled away from the man.

Also according to RTP Madeira, the fan in question filed a complaint with the PSP. Carlos André Gomes was identified by officers present at the airport.

In the meantime, and through social media, Marítimo's supporters' group 'Fanatics 13' highlights that it was an unfortunate and thoughtless act on the part of the president of Marítimo.

"CSMFanatics13 hereby remind all our members and fans in general that our greatest asset is our maritime members. After what happened yesterday in sporting terms and after completely failing to achieve our goals, any member has the right to show their discontent, whether inside or outside the stadium. It is the club's employees who should be the first to respect those who follow the team, from north to south of the country, solely and exclusively to support Club Sport Marítimo. Knowing our president's stance, we are certain that what happened at the airport was an unfortunate and thoughtless act, but that can never be ignored", can be read in the note left on the Facebook social network.

"The Fanatics will never be, nor from list A, B or C, nor from Carlos Pereira, Rui Fontes or Carlos André. The Fanatics will eternally defend our greatest asset because this group was created by the love we feel for Club Sport Marítimo. The day that these values are no longer respected, the best thing to do is to pack our bags and dedicate ourselves to fishing, every weekend", ends the statement.
