"Luís Filipe Vieira should already realize that his time at Benfica is over"
Former candidate for the presidency of the incarnate criticized the former president of the Luz club.

The newspaper Record wrote, this Monday, that Luís Filipe Vieira would be making efforts to put a candidate of his trust against Rui Costa, in the race for the presidency of Benfica that is scheduled for 2025.
Francisco Benítez, former candidate for the presidency of the reds, pointed the finger at the attitude of the former leader of the Luz club, considering that Vieira "should have already realized that his time at Benfica is over."
"He is trying to continue some protagonism. I think it is wrong because everyone knows that Vieira's time is over, that he should move on with his life. He has many things to worry about, namely many cases in court. He should also realize, with some intelligence, that his time is over and that he should let Benfica follow its own path. This Vieirist cloud should disappear once and for all from Benfica's history", stressed Francisco Benítez, in statements made to Rádio Renascença.
Even so, the businessman does not spare Rui Costa, current president, for this reappearance of Luís Filipe Vieira.
"Eradicating Vieirism from Benfica was something that should have been done already. Rui Costa, when he made his list, should have thought about that. He did not, practically 70 to 80 percent of his list are friends and former members of Luís Filipe Vieira's boards. This cloud of Vieirism continues to hover over Benfica", he continued.
"As long as the statutes are not changed, it is not worth continuing to think that there are alternatives to the current state of Benfica. That is not true. Much has to be changed and I am sure that several alternatives will appear. Today, the statutes do not allow a large number of Benfica fans, with good ideas, projects and the ability to present them, to run for elections", he said.
The leader of the 'Servir o Benfica' movement also defended the departure of Roger Schmidt.
"We have a president who is hostage to the coach because he rushed into renewing his contract. There is a complicated situation there. The solution for me would be a change of coach because he failed to achieve the goals he set for himself", he sentenced.
