In the call-up, released today at Cidade do Futebol, the coach bet on 25 players, with emphasis on the absolute debut of Stephanie Ribeiro (Pumas UNAM, Mexico) and also on the possible first AA internationalization for Beatriz Cameirão (Damaiense), who returned to the call-ups. "Beatriz has already been with us in a training camp in the USA, where we played against the USA and Nigeria, and she had a good career in the training and in the sub-23. Stephanie is a player who plays in the Mexican championship, with a very large dimension and professionalism", justified Francisco Neto, regarding these two novelties. In the range of choices, there are also some absences, due to the unavailability of Tatiana Pinto (Brighton, England), Ana Capeta and Fátima Pinto (Sporting) and Nádia Gomes (Chicago Red Stars, USA), who are dealing with physical problems. "Some of the players mentioned are actually due to injury, they are not fit. They are injuries that will take time to rehabilitate, so since they are not fit, it did not make sense for them to be here", explained Francisco Neto regarding the situation of some of the players who are usually called up but will not be able to contribute. The women's football team will face Northern Ireland on the next 31st, a Friday, at 8:45 pm, in Leiria, meeting the same team again on Northern Irish soil, in Lurgan, on June 4th, starting at 7 pm. The goal will be to consolidate the leadership position in Group 3 of League B of the qualification for the 2025 European Championship, in which they currently have two wins in the two matches already played. "We have to look at the game by game, as they say on the coaches' side, because we know that we cannot take anything for granted. We know that on the other side there is a very competitive team and it has to be a Portugal at the highest level, with the same spirit, capacity and attitude that we have had, whether in a particular game, in the world championship or in the qualification", he guaranteed. Despite Portugal leading the qualification phase for Euro2025 in isolation, Francisco Neto still finds room to improve the team's performance and intends to see this growth in the two matches that follow. "In the games with Malta, we had some technical difficulties. The fluidity of our game was not as good as we would like, mostly due to what was, mainly in some moments, our inability to pass and receive, which did not come out with the fluidity we wanted," said Francisco Neto. The national team has not yet conceded any goals in their qualifying group and the coach also promised to do everything to keep it that way. "We want to win the three points, that is always the most important thing in each game, but of course for us it is a moment that is not talked about so much, we talk a lot about the goals scored but for us it is an important factor", he admitted. To reach the final phase, scheduled for Switzerland, between July 2nd and 27th, 2025, Portugal will need to be in one of the first three places in their group and will also have to overcome the two play-off rounds, the first scheduled for October 27th and 29th and the second on November 27th and December 3rd. The first classified teams ensure promotion to League A. List of 25 called up: Goalkeepers: Inês Pereira (Servette FC/Sui), Patrícia Morais (Sporting de Braga), Sierra Cota-Yarde (University of Arkansas/USA). Defenders: Alícia Correia (Sporting), Ana Borges (Sporting), Ana Seiça (Benfica), Carole Costa (Benfica), Catarina Amado (Benfica), Diana Gomes (Sevilha/Esp), Joana Marchão (Servette FC/Sui) and Lúcia Alves (Benfica) Midfielders: Ana Rute (Sporting de Braga), Andreia Norton (Benfica), Andreia Jacinto (Real Sociedad/Esp), Andreia Faria (Benfica), Beatriz Cameirão (Damaiense), Dolores Silva (Sporting de Braga), Joana Martins (Sporting) and Kika Nazareth (Benfica).
