Coins: "Today Lisbon is green and white. City lives the glory of Sporting"
The Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, said that "today, Lisbon is green and white" and praised the Sporting men's team that was crowned national football champion, after receiving it at the local authority's headquarters.

"Today, Lisbon is green and white, and the city is experiencing the glory of Sporting, which comes from effort, dedication and a lot of devotion", declared Carlos Moedas, at the reception at the Lisbon City Hall.
The tribute session to the male football champion club of the I League brought together the entire 'lions' squad, the technical team and the management, alongside the capital's political figures and in front of thousands of supporters.
The mayor looked at a "square full" of 'leonine' supporters and recalled that, on May 5th, "Marquês was full, of happiness and joy that spread through the hearts of millions, in the country and all over the world".
He praised the club's president, Frederico Varandas, the sports director, Hugo Viana, and the coach, Ruben Amorim, who "said that historic phrase: 'what if it goes well?'", and ended up "champion twice, as a winner and an idol".
"If there is something that distinguishes Sporting and marks its identity, it is the union of this team. In 2021, they said that where one goes, they all go. Today, they made that journey side by side", he added, recalling "three great figures", Coates, Adán and Luís Neto.

Otherwise, Carlos Moedas also highlighted Paulinho, the wardrobe "that everyone loves", and the Swedish Viktor Gyökeres, the team's top scorer, hired by Hugo Viana.
"Hugo Viana's work was simply fantastic. It was surgical, it made a difference in the details. What about the president, Frederico Varandas? He came here to the chamber and said he would come back. He is a true leader, because he has three characteristics: he knows how to surround himself, he knows how to listen and he knows how to do things", he closed.
The mayor also announced that the city council will vote on awarding a medal to Manuel Fernandes, a 'legend' of the 'lions' who is currently hospitalized.
