'Crazy' Bologna-Juventus match makes Atalanta smile... and Benfica
Draw leaves the path open to Bergamo formation. Eagles also cheering to ensure a direct access vacancy to the Champions League.

Bologna and Juventus starred, this Monday, in a 'crazy' game with a draw (3-3) to end the 37th and penultimate round of Serie A. However, the result leaves Atalanta with the path open to third place, which also pleases... Benfica.
Let's go by parts. Bologna entered the match at full speed and at 11 minutes was already winning by two goals, thanks to goals from Calafiori (2') and Castro (11').
In the second half, the team led by Thiago Motta reached the third goal, again due to Calafiori (53'), but the victory was far from certain.
Juventus woke up late but still managed to avoid defeat, scoring three goals in less than 10 minutes: Chiesa (76'), Milik (83') and Yildiz (84') restored the draw at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.
When all was said and done, Bologna and Juventus had 68 points, but they could see Atalanta surpass them, since the Bergamo team has a game in arrears. If they finish on the podium, Atalanta confirms Benfica's direct entry into the Champions League, regardless of the winner of the Europa League.
The explanation is simple: Bayer Leverkusen, the other Europa League finalist, has already secured direct access to the Champions League and if Atalanta also manages to do so, the extra place granted to the Europa League winner goes to the club that is in the preliminary phase of the non-champions with the best UEFA rating. In this case, it will be Benfica.
