Official: Makouta leaves Boavista after three seasons
Congolese international midfielder Gaius Makouta said goodbye to Boavista today at the end of his contract, ending a three-season run with the 15th-place team in the 2023/24 I Liga, which made his departure official during the close season.

"There were three years of ups and downs, but unforgettable. Thank you to the club for this opportunity and for believing when others doubted me. Certainly, I am not the same player as when I arrived. A daughter and more than 100 games later, it is time to say goodbye", said Makouta, in a farewell video on social media.
The midfielder totalled 33 games in 2023/24, with three goals and two assists, and is now free on the transfer market, having a connection to Portuguese football since 2017/18, when he arrived at Sporting da Covilhã, followed by a spell at Sporting de Braga B, from 2019 to 2021, which included a loan to the Bulgarians of Beroe.
With two goals and 18 matches for the main Congo national team, the midfielder born in France is the first departure completed by Boavista after the conclusion of the 2023/24 edition of the I Liga, in which he only achieved permanence in the 34th and final round, with 32 points.
