"When Benfica doesn't win it's as if someone had died"
Serbian midfielder confesses that it was at Luz that he felt the most pressure as a professional.

Nemanja Matic gave an interview to journalist Aleksandar Stojanovic on Tuesday, on the podcast Alesio, in which he spoke about the level of demand at Benfica, where he spent two and a half seasons (from 2011 to 2013).
"The pressure depends on people's mentality. The greatest pressure I felt as a football player, even though I was well accepted, was at Benfica. There was a lot of pressure. I remember that in one season, we won almost all the games in the League, and we drew for the first time, 2-2 or 1-1 I can't remember, and there were about 300 fans waiting for us at the stadium. And we had won 15 games before that! You can feel it in the air", said the Serbian midfielder.
"When Benfica doesn't win, it's as if someone had died. That's how they live. It's the same for the players, for the people who work at the club, for the coaches. While in this part of Europe, people are a little more relaxed. They deal badly with defeats, it's a bit dramatic, but it's also better in some situations", he continued.
"Pressure? If Lyon weren't in a difficult situation, they certainly wouldn't look at me as a solution. Hiring players my age... they recognized that they needed someone experienced, who knew how to deal with this type of situation. It was an honor for me. The sporting director called me and told me that I was his first choice and that he would do everything to bring me in, because he believed that with me on the team we would improve a lot. The goal was to stay in Ligue 1. When we are in the relegation zone, we don't think about Europe", concluded the Lyon midfielder.
