Manuel Tulipa agrees with the call-up of Francisco Conceição to represent the national team at Euro 2024, revealed this Tuesday by the national coach. In an interview with Canal 11, the Torreense coach, who worked with the young FC Porto player in his training days, highlighted his "growth" in recent years and spoke of an element of "great value" for Portugal.

"I was expecting it because Francisco had a very good season, the final part was extraordinary. The club became very dependent on what he did in the game. I also understand that given the characteristics of our opponents in the Euro, a player like Francisco can be important at some moments of the game, not always from the start," Tulipa began by saying, before commenting on the nickname "espalha brasas" (fire-spreader) given to him by the national coach.

"I think he's an agitator. When he plays from the start or when he comes on, he causes a lot of imbalance to the opponent. He used to be a player who needed space to be important in the game, but today that's not necessary, because he understands very well the moment of positional attack and quick attack. Right now he's one of the strongest players in reacting to losing the ball, which he added to his game when he was 17 years old. He has become more important in the collective game. He's having an extraordinary season and he's an element of great value for our coach," he stressed.

Tulipa also pointed out the fact that Francisco Conceição never gave up on his individual flair even when things were going wrong for him.

"The mental adaptation that happens in football is very important. We never win alone. He was very daring and never lost focus on what he did very well: dribbling, hiding the ball, that 'ranhozice' (cunning) that he also has... That was seen as an obstacle for him, because many times in the search for winning duels the ball is lost and people were not happy," he explained, before concluding.

"He is different because he is a very strong player in the individual part. The resilience he gained when he had little playing time at FC Porto was of extreme importance. Then he came back much more mature and more important to the team. He has a collective dimension that he didn't have in training," concluded the 51-year-old Portuguese coach who worked in FC Porto's youth system between 2017 and 2020.
