Tadej Pogacar takes fifth win on stage 16 and extends his lead in the Giro
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) won the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia today, winning a stage for the fifth time in this edition of the race which he leads even more comfortably.

Pogacar, who had already triumphed in the second, seventh, eighth and 15th stages, today completed the 118.7 kilometers between Laas and Monte Pana, in a shortened stage due to bad weather, in 2:49.47 hours, being 16 seconds faster than the Italian Giulio Pelizzari (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), second, and the Colombian Daniel Martínez (BORA-hansgrohe), third.
In the overall standings, the 25-year-old Slovenian, who was champion of the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021 and is making his debut in the Giro, is even more of a leader, now seconded by Daniel Martínez, 7.18 minutes behind, after the Briton Geraint Thomas (INEOS), now third at 7.40, lost time.
On Tuesday, the 17th of 21 stages connects Selva di Valgardena to Passo Brocon, with a new day of high mountains and a high finish after 159 kilometers.
