Rui Alves is running again for the presidency of Nacional
Nacional's president, Rui Alves, will run again for the club's leadership in the elections for the club's social bodies for the three-year period 2024-2027, scheduled for June 17, the leader of the 'alvinegros' announced today.

On the sidelines of a ceremony to pay tribute to the promotion to the 1st Football League, promoted by the Regional Government of Madeira, at Quinta Vigia, in Funchal, Rui Alves said that he is once again a candidate "in the name of love" that unites him to the members, in addition to the "paradigm shift" with regard to the sports support policy by the Regional Government of Madeira.
"No candidate is in sight and the club cannot be left in a vacuum", the current leader of the nationalist emblem also justified, as another of the main reasons that lead him to run for a new term.
Under his leadership, Nacional finished the 2nd Portuguese Football League in second place, with 71 points, two less than the champion Santa Clara, which allowed the 'black and whites' to return to the 1st League, three years after their last presence.
About three years ago, Rui Alves, 64, was re-elected for the 10th time as president, with a total of 437 votes, equivalent to 71%, against the 186 of the candidate Daniel Meneses.
30 years after he was first elected president of Nacional, on July 11, 1994, and holding 10 terms, although not consecutively, Rui Alves is so far the only known candidate for the electoral act of the island emblem.
