Kvaratskhelia leads Georgia's squad, Portugal's opponent
Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia headlines the 26-man squad named by debutants Georgia on Monday for the European Championship, where they will face Portugal in Group F.

From the list released by the coach, the former French international Willy Sagnol -- whose final composition will have to be sent to UEFA by June 7 --, only two players who play in the Georgian championship are included, in the case of goalkeeper Giorgi Loria, from Dinamo Tbilissi, and forward Giorgi Tsitaishvili, from Dinamo Batumi.
The Georgian team, one of the debutants in a European Championship, along with Serbia (it will be the first participation as an independent nation, although it has inherited the results of Yugoslavia), reached the final phase after winning Path C of the play-offs, in which it eliminated Luxembourg (2-0), in the semi-finals, and Greece, in the final, this in the penalty shootout.
With the preparation scheduled to start next Tuesday, Georgia will play against Montenegro, on June 9, in a preparation match for the final phase, which will take place in Germany, between June 14 and July 14.
Georgia will be the third and last opponent of Portugal in Group F of Euro2024, on June 26, in Gelsenkirchen, and before that, the Georgians will face Turkey, on the 18th, in Dortmund, and the Czech Republic, on the 22nd, in Hamburg.
List of the 26 called up:

- Defenders: Solomon Kverkvelia (Al Akhdoud, Ara), Giorgi Gvelesiani (Persepolis, Ira), Guram Kashia (Slovan Bratislava, Svq), Jimmy Tabidze (Panetolikos, Gre), Lasha Dvali (APOEL, Chp), Luka Lochoshvili (Cremonese, Ita), Otar Kakabadze (Cracovia, Pol) and Giorgi Gocholeishvili (Shakhtar Donetsk, Ucr).
- Midfielders: Giorgi Chakvetadze (Watford, Ing), Anzor Mekvabishvili (Universitatea Craiova, Rom), Jaba Kankava (Slovan Brastislava, Svq), Otar Kiteishvili (Sturm Graz, Aut), Nika Kwekveskiri (Lech Poznan, Pol), Giorgi Kochorashvili (Levante, Esp), Sandro Altunashvili (Wolfsberger, Aut) and Levan Shengelia (Panetolikos, Gre).
- Forwards: Giorgi Tsitaishvili (Dinamo Batumi), Saba Lobzhanidze (Atlanta United, EUA), Giorgi Mikoutadze (Metz, Fra), Budu Zivzivadze (Karlsruhe, Ale), Giorgi Kvilitaia (APOEL, Chp), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli, Ita) and Zuriko Davitashvili (Bordeaux, Fra).
