Varandas asks for "fair play" in FC Porto-Sporting: "We want the 18th Cup"
Sporting's president expects "a real football party" at Jamor.

Frederico Varandas signed, this Friday, an opinion piece in the official match program of the Portuguese Football Federation for the long-awaited Portuguese Cup final, which will pit FC Porto and Sporting against each other at the Estádio Nacional do Jamor.
"Reaching the Portuguese Cup final is more than fulfilling a goal for Sporting. It is to have the ambition to win another title and have the opportunity to experience the true celebration of football. This competition, the queen of Portuguese football, generates emotions like no other, bringing together emblems from the North to the South of the country", he began by saying.
"This time, the stage for the Portuguese Cup celebration will once again be painted in green and white. It is with pride that the Sporting family will once again gather in the competition with the most tradition in the national sports scene. At Sporting, we aspire to this conquest and we will fight for it", he continued.
"We want our 18th Portuguese Cup and add it to the national championship. On the pitch, we maintain our ambition of always: to win and continue to write our history. Supported by the Sporting fans, who, this season, have shown, once again, why they are the best fans in national football", he added.
In closing, the president of the Alvalade club appealed for an "example of civic spirit" in the Classic: "We respect our opponent, FC Porto, and congratulate them for reaching this final with us. It will be the sixth Portuguese Cup final between us".
"May it also be an opportunity to show that Portuguese football has quality and renowned protagonists on and off the pitch. But, above all, may it be a moment of true sportsmanship and fair play and that dignifies Portuguese football and national sport in general", he added.
