"Needs to recover". Benfica reinforcement asks to be excused from the national team

Leandro Barreiro, signed by Benfica at zero cost for next season, as Rui Costa announced this Thursday, refused to join the Luxembourg national team for the next international matches.
The revelation was made by the coach, at a press conference, who says that the midfielder does not feel 100% and asked to "rest".
"Physically and mentally, the season was intense for him and he told me that he could not be 100% for the international matches. He needs to recover. I spoke to him several times on the phone, but he did not change his mind", revealed Luc Holtz.
"On the one hand, I understand his need to recover, but, as a coach, I obviously have difficulty accepting it", he admitted, before the friendlies with France and Belgium. At Mainz, Barreiro played 41 games during this season.
