Portimonense and AVS start to dispute the last place in the 2024/25 First League
Portimonense and AVS will start playing today in Portimão for the last spot in the top tier of Portuguese football in 2024/25, in the first leg of the play-off that determines the 18th team among the 'elite'.

The Algarveans seek to ensure their permanence in the I League, after finishing the championship in 16th and second-to-last place, safe from a direct relegation, but with the obligation to dispute the 'vacancy' with the third-placed team in the II League.
This is the case of AVS, which, in its debut season in professional competitions, may achieve the feat of rising to the top echelon, after a season in which it finished with the same points as Marítimo, fourth, but with an advantage in the direct confrontation.
If for Portimonense the goal is to continue in the I League, for the seventh consecutive season, after having risen for the last time in 2016/17, for AVS the goal is to debut.
The first leg of the play-off will be played today at the Portimão Municipal Stadium, starting at 7:45 pm, in a game refereed by Luís Godinho, while the second leg will be on Sunday, June 2nd, in Vila das Aves, at the same time.
With the conclusion of the professional championships, Santa Clara and Nacional are the teams promoted to the I League, as first and second-placed in the second division, and, in the opposite direction, Vizela (17th) and Desportivo de Chaves (18th) were relegated.
