"Benfica? I wasn't even playing or going to the bench. They wanted to loan me out"
Portuguese international remembers difficult early days at Manchester.

Bernardo Silva gave an extensive interview to Man. City's official media on Friday, regarding the FA Cup final against Manchester United, and one of the topics of conversation was the time he spent in Benfica's youth system.
"There were some doubts, because between the ages of 13 and 18 I wasn't even a starter or a substitute. Benfica wanted to loan me to a smaller club in Lisbon. I was shorter, thinner and slower than the other players. But I fought and tried my best to continue. I was inspired by a team like Barcelona, which had players like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Pedro, all short players. If they can do it, so can I. Even David Silva at City. When you're young, you always try to have that hope," began the midfielder, who recalled going to AS Monaco on loan from the Eagles.
"From the moment I signed my first professional contract, I started playing again. I moved to Monaco, I think I was at a good level and I started to believe that I could reach a very good level. I never gave up, because it was my dream. But when they doubt you at 14, you start to have doubts too. I couldn't imagine that I would get where I am and I'm very happy with the career I have," continued the Portuguese international, who also spoke about his early days at the Citizens.
"I didn't expect, not even close, after seven years, to win so many titles... six years and five Premier Leagues is the hardest thing in this country. I've felt that since the first season. In the first six months I didn't play that much, because of the adaptation and everything, but from the second season on, the connection started to get very strong," he concluded.
