Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmatí, of FC Barcelona, was today elected the best player of the 2023/24 edition of the women's Champions League, repeating the achievement of last season.

Bonmatí, who had been named player of the match on Saturday in the final against Lyon, which 'Barça' won 2-0 in Bilbao, was the choice of UEFA's technical observers.

In 11 matches in the 2023/24 edition of the Champions League, the reigning Ballon d'Or winner and best player at the 2023 World Cup scored six goals, including the first in the 2024 final, and provided as many assists in 11 games.

The FC Barcelona player has won the last two editions of this award, succeeding her teammate Alexia Putellas, who won the first in 2021/22.

On Saturday, Putellas scored FC Barcelona's second goal, as they won the Women's Champions League for the third time, repeating 2020/21 and 2022/23.
