Brasileirão to resume on Saturday after flood-enforced break
The Brazilian men's football league will resume on Saturday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced today, after a two-week break following the floods that hit the south of the country.

The Brasileirão will be resumed, after a unanimous decision by the 20 first-division clubs, meeting in an Extraordinary Technical Council in Rio de Janeiro, starting with the seventh round on Saturday, the day on which the ninth round was scheduled to be played.
Still, notes the CBF in a statement, the championship will end on December 08, "as planned at the beginning of the season", allowing the gaucho clubs to "invert the order of the field" of the first round, that is, to play away from home first, if they wish and the opponents approve.
Basically, the competition will take advantage of FIFA dates, intended for national team competitions, to make up for lost time, also giving this exception to the rule to the three clubs from Rio Grande do Sul, Grêmio, Internacional and Juventude, strongly affected by the 'catastrophe'.
"We are happy because the vast majority of the clubs understood what we are going through in Rio Grande do Sul. We took some palliative measures to resume and minimize the imbalance", highlighted the president of Grêmio, Alberto Guerra, quoted in a statement.
The floods that hit several cities in southern Brazil a month ago affected more than two million people, causing 169 deaths and 630,000 displaced, while 56 are still missing.
