Portugal finished in the first position of Group D, in a tie with the England and France teams, respectively second and third, and will play for a place in the semi-finals against Poland, second in Group C, behind the undefeated Italy.

After beating Spain (2-1) and England (4-1), the Portuguese team closed the group stage with a 2-1 defeat against France, in a game that "went wrong", according to Tiago Ferreira, but in which "the goal was achieved".

"[This first stage] went well, with two victories, and this last defeat was in a complicated game. Even so, we managed to qualify [for the quarter-finals], which was our goal", said the midfielder, in statements to the channels of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

The Sporting de Braga player acknowledges that Portugal had already been warned and was aware of the difficulties they would encounter against the French, and entered determined to win the game, but it went wrong and now they have to improve against Poland.

"We already played against Poland at the beginning of the season and it went well [Portugal won 5-2, in October 2023], but, at this stage [knockout], the accumulated fatigue can be decisive and make a difference", acknowledged the Portuguese player.

Portugal and Poland will face each other on Thursday, at 4:00 pm (in Lisbon), in the quarter-finals of the European Under-17 Championship, scheduled for Larnaca, Cyprus.
