"The UIA suspends Thiago Braz for 16 months due to the presence of ostarine, which the athlete says he consumed through food supplements and that contained the prohibited substance", the anti-doping authority said today in a statement.

Braz was provisionally suspended in July 2023, following a positive control at the Stockholm 'meeting'. The suspension, of 16 months, thus runs until November 27, 2024, the statement clarifies.

The Brazilian pole vaulter appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), says the UIA, which states that it does not rule out appealing for a longer suspension.

The UIA requested a four-year suspension, but the UIA arbitration tribunal (independent body) accepted that Thiago Braz followed the recommendations of the medical team, and decided on a shorter suspension.

Olympic champion in front of his home crowd in Rio de Janeiro, with 6.03 meters, and then bronze medalist in Tokyo, with 5.87, he missed the World Championships in Budapest last year due to the provisional suspension.

His record also includes the silver medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships, and he was fourth at the 2022 World Outdoor Championships in Eugene.
