Osimhen injured, to miss Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers
Victor Osimhen, the striker of Napoli and the Nigerian national team, has injured himself and will miss two matches of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for June, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) announced today.

However, the body did not specify the nature of the injury, and only said that the player will be unavailable for four weeks, which will make him miss the reception to South Africa, on June 7, and the game against Benin, which was transferred to the Ivory Coast, on the 10th.
These are two crucial games for the 'super eagles', who are in third place in Group C, with only two points, resulting from two draws in the first games, behind South Africa, who are in second place, and the leader Rwanda, while Benin is the last classified.
In the call-up for these two qualifying matches, against South Africa and Benin, left-back Kenneth Igboke was called up for the vacancy opened by Osimhen.
In what was perhaps his last match for Napoli, Osimhen came on in the 65th minute, replacing Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste, in the reception to Lecce, on the 38th and final day of Serie A, which ended in a draw.
The Nigerian striker scored 15 goals in the Italian championship and was fourth in the list of top scorers, with the same as French international Olivier Giroud, from AC Milan, who was third, but behind Argentinian Lautaro Martínez, from Inter, who was the 'king' of the 'gunners', with 24, and Serbian Dusan Vlahovic, from Juventus, with 16.
In the previous season, in which Napoli was crowned champion, Osimhen had been the top scorer with 26 goals, but the team was unrecognizable this season, finishing the championship in 10th place, with 53 points, 41 behind the new champion, Inter Milan.
