At 42, the son of former footballer Manuel Fernandes, a 'legend' at Sporting, takes a new step in his career after having debuted as head coach at the helm of Sporting, in 2018.

After his time at Alvalade, where he had coached for many years in the youth ranks, he moved to Desportivo de Chaves, also in the I League, followed by Estoril Praia and Leixões, both in the second tier of Portuguese football.

Tiago Fernandes would end up returning to action at the start of the 2023/24 season, having guided the young Torreense team to fourth place in the qualifying phase of the Liga Revelação and to the semi-finals of the Taça Revelação.
