The Italian island of Sardinia hosted the 'Europe Edition' of the prestigious Globe Soccer Awards ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, but not everything went well for the Portuguese who were in the running for awards.

Let's start with the best male footballer. Kylian Mbappé, the French league's top scorer who is on his way to Real Madrid, received this award and beat out Bernardo Silva, who was one of the nominees.

In the category of best men's team, the national champion Sporting was also among the nominees, but ended up losing the award to Manchester City of England.

João Neves of Benfica was one of the candidates for the rising star award, but the Portuguese midfielder was beaten out by Lamine Yamal of Barcelona. Finally, Rúben Amorim lost the best coach award to Xabi Alonso.

The president of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) was present at the ceremony and praised the nominations of the three Portuguese players and the Lisbon club.

"It is a sign of Portuguese talent in European and world football. These institutional presences of ours have been recurring, it is a good sign, a sign of affirmation of Portuguese football and the talent that we have been producing year after year", said the president of the Association of European Leagues, quoted by the LPFP press office.
