JJ's Al Hilal completes treble and leaves CR7 at 'square one'

On Friday, Al Hilal won the Saudi King's Cup after beating Al Nassr in a penalty shootout. After a 2-2 draw in regular time, which continued into extra time, the last trophy of the Saudi season had to be decided on penalty kicks.

The game started off well for Jorge Jesus thanks to an early goal by Mitrovic, in the sixth minute. Al Hilal was comfortable and gave the initiative to Al Nassr, who despite creating dangerous chances showed a clear lack of efficiency.

It was only in the second half that Al Nassr started to get closer to a tie, with a bicycle kick. After a cross by Otávio, the Portuguese star tried to add another beautiful goal to his vast collection but saw Bono's post take away his smile.

Luís Castro's team suffered a hard setback in their search for a tie in the 56th minute when David Ospina received a direct red card, leaving Al Nassr with one less player.

However, Al Hilal did not take advantage of having one more player to 'kill' the game and after a miss by Mitrovic - something rare, it must be said - Jorge Jesus lived through hell in the last three minutes of regulation time. Bulayhi received his second yellow card after headbutting an opponent and was sent off, leaving both teams with an equal number of players. Soon after, the tying goal came, headed in by Yahya.

But the worst was yet to come when Kalidou Koulibaly was also sent off for accumulating yellow cards, after hitting the Al Nassr goalkeeper in a completely avoidable way.

The game ended in a draw at the end of regulation time and the final went into extra time with both teams showing the physical wear and tear of a very long season.

For this same reason, the decision had to go to penalty kicks, with the Al Hilal players being the most effective. Rúben Neves started by missing, saw CR7 not waste his, but the man of the night was goalkeeper Bono, who ended up securing another title for Jorge Jesus in Saudi Arabia.

Al Hilal thus achieved the treble by adding the Saudi championship to the Saudi Super Cup and King's Cup. In turn, Al Nassr ends another season without winning any domestic competitions. CR7, Otávio and Luís Castro's team only managed to win the Arab Football Associations Union Cup.
