"Transparency". Government prepares new regulation for Environmental Fund
The Government is developing new regulations for the Environmental Fund, for "greater competence and transparency" in the financing of public environmental policies, with priority for energy poverty and water, the Ministry of the Environment told Lusa today.

"The Ministry of Environment and Energy is developing a new regulation for the Environmental Fund and intends to carry out, among other measures, the publication of a biannual plan of notices, the definition of investment priorities and guidance for results; namely, the contractualisation of actions and the publication of all support granted on the Environmental Fund portal", pointed out the Government, in a written response to Lusa.
In an interview with Público, published on Monday, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, said that there will have to be "improvements" in the Environmental Fund and that "it must be managed with transparency", also contributing "to agriculture, to the forest and to the structuring objective of the water storage, supply and efficient use plan".
Questioned by Lusa, the Ministry of Environment said that among the priorities, within the scope of the Environmental Fund, "are the fight against energy poverty and the search for solutions for the water issue".
"In order to make the management of the Environmental Fund credible and ensure that it is duly applied in public policies, the Government is evaluating its results and making changes that introduce greater competence and transparency in the process", stressed the Ministry led by Maria da Graça Carvalho.
The Environmental Fund was created in 2017, by the Government led by António Costa, and aims to support environmental and climate action policies, financing entities, activities or projects in the sectors of transport, energy, climate action, waste, water resources, forests and agriculture.
