"BestFly World Wide, the majority shareholder of Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (TICV), has made the difficult decision to cease operations in Cabo Verde and suspend TICV's operations in the country," the airline said in a statement.

The brand held the concession granted by the Government for inter-island flights, whose service deteriorated due to lack of aircraft, to the point that flights were suspended at the beginning of the month.

Bestfly justified today's announcement with the fact that the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) revoked the terms of entry of an aircraft that would allow flights to resume, replacing the aircraft that are under maintenance.

The request was received in a "climate of mistrust, slowness and hostility, even though the procedure, on the part of TICV, was carried out with all regularity," said Nuno Pereira, executive director of BestFly, the majority shareholder of TICV.

"We have been operating in a toxic and punitive business environment, which severely limits our capacity for action, despite continuous investment," he said, adding that "the context has been marked by situations of frank abnormality".

"I suggest that the Cape Verdean authorities make a proper analysis of how many companies have already operated in Cape Verde in the last 10 years. I believe that the result of this analysis should justify a deep reflection on the business environment experienced in the country," he concluded.

The constraints on domestic air transport in the archipelago have worsened and, on Monday, the Cape Verdean President, José Maria Neves, joined the voices calling on the Government for urgent solutions to the problem.

Currently, inter-island connections are provided by Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV), the state-owned international airline, which the Government has placed on domestic routes to cover Bestfly's failures, referring to a solution for the connections soon.
