"We have here a company and a sector that denounced the collective agreement and, as a result of this denunciation, we have witnessed a complete crushing of wages and the removal of workers' rights in the meat sector", said Tiago Oliveira to Lusa, who joined the protest of dozens of workers, who today are carrying out a 24-hour strike at the Izidoro meat factory, in Montijo, district of Setúbal.
"The workers, who were entitled to certain values that were in the collective agreement, now, as a result of the expiration and the political options that have been followed since 2003, through a specific attack on the collective agreement, even the right to overtime was taken away from them", he added.
Tiago Oliveira guarantees that the workers "will continue to fight for their rights", but does not foresee any facilities with the new AD Government.
"Just look at what the Government's program is, which refers to the word `companies´ more than 170 times and only 30 times to the word `workers´. Obviously, you can immediately see which way the Government's program is leaning", he said, also stressing that, in relation to workers, the Government makes everything conditional on "an increase in the productivity of companies".
The official numbers of adherence to the strike called by the National Union of Workers in the Food, Beverage, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Fishing and Services (STIAC) sectors at the Izidoro factory are not yet known, but some workers admit that it could be "close to 70/75%".
