Portugal has used 80% of horse mackerel quota and fishing may end
The Portuguese fleet has already used 80% of the horse mackerel quota, and it may become necessary to close these catches, the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) warned today.

"For the due purposes and considering the horse mackerel catch data carried out by the Portuguese fleet in subzone 8C, it is reported that the use of the quota has reached 80%", reads a note from the DGRM.
Subzone 8C corresponds to the Southern Bay of Biscay.
Given this scenario, the DGRM warned that horse mackerel fishing may be closed.
The DGRM is a central service of the State's direct administration, with administrative autonomy, which aims to develop maritime safety and services, the implementation of fishing policies and the preservation of resources.
