Unemployment stands at 6.5% in the euro area and 6.0% in the EU in March
The unemployment rate fell to 6.5% in March in the euro area and remained stable at 6.0% in the European Union (EU) as a whole, Eurostat reported today.

In the euro area, unemployment decreased to 6.6% in March 2023 from 6.7% in February, but remained stable compared with March 2022.
In the EU27, the unemployment rate was stable at 6.0% compared with February 2023 and down from 6.1% in March 2022.
Eurostat estimates that 13.2 million people were unemployed in the EU in March 2023, of which 11.8 million were in the euro area.
The highest unemployment rates were recorded in Spain (11.7%), Greece (10.2%) and Sweden (8.3%), while the lowest were in Poland, Czech Republic (both 2.9%) and Slovenia (3.1%).
In Portugal, the unemployment rate decreased to 6.5% in March 2023, from 6.8% in the same month of 2022 and 6.6% in February 2023.
