Delta Q, the group's capsule coffee brand, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the manager takes stock of the situation.
Despite the fact that the capsule market has contracted in the last year, performance in Poland has been positive.
Capsules "account for 15% of our business, perhaps the market that has driven this growth the most is Poland", namely due to the relationship with Jerónimo Martins "Delta Q now has a 25% share in Poland, which is very good and we are only with Biedronka".
The Polish supermarket chain Biedronka, part of the Jerónimo Martins group, has contributed to the growth of Delta Q in Poland.
"It has brought us very strong growth in capsules to the point that we are already installing another production machine in Campo Maior", which will incorporate the biocapsule made from vegetable oils present in nature that was presented today.
Asked whether Delta Q will follow Jerónimo Martins' expansion into Slovakia, which is expected to open stores at the end of the year, Rui Miguel Nabeiro concluded: "Yes, sir".
"They will also take Delta Q to Slovakia, there are 10 stores that they will open now and they will already have Delta Q", he concluded.
Delta Q has had "sustained growth" over the past 17 years, he said.
"In Portugal, we have seen" in the last 12 months "a year of contraction in the capsule market because the pandemic brought a lot of consumption, a very robust growth in this segment", he said.
Currently, "we are well above pre-pandemic levels, it is not comparable, despite the fact that the entire capsule market contracted last year" because "we were more out of the house", he explained.
For example, in Spain, the group depends 80% on out-of-home consumption.
