CGTP considers "positive" meeting with PR who was "sensitive" to the issues
The general secretary of the CGTP told Lusa today that the first meeting with the President of the Republic was "quite positive", emphasizing that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was "sensitive" to the problems presented by the trade union.

"It was a very positive meeting because we were able to present to the President the fundamental issues that plague workers today, which came out of the CGTP congress, and which we do not see being overcome by the Government Program [...], which has a path of degrading relations with the world of work," said Tiago Oliveira, in statements to Lusa.
The inter-union presented Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with the need to increase wages, combat precariousness, the deregulation of working hours and public services, which he said were "under immense attack".
To mark World Social Security Day, several dozen people gathered outside the building on Avenida da República, calling for a reinforcement of this system and considering it threatened by the Government Program of the executive led by Luís Montenegro.
"What is set out in the Government Program is an attack. When it puts Social Security in competition with the private sector, obviously, it intends to decapitalize Social Security," he said.
For the CGTP, "a different policy is urgent", one that meets the interests of workers and "not half a dozen who belong to big capital, who continue with millions in profits".
Tiago Oliveira also noted that Luís Montenegro's executive intends to increase the results of large companies, for example, by reducing the tax burden.
"The President was sensitive to the issues raised, to the problems that the CGTP showed to exist. Now we need to have a different policy for the country, that overcomes the difficulties that workers have," he said.
Tiago Oliveira added that he had already transmitted these messages at the Social Concertation meeting this Tuesday, now calling for political decisions, although he pointed out that he believes it is difficult to have these "responses from the PSD-CDS Government".
