Cement consumption in Portugal increases 2.1% in the 1st quarter
The consumption of cement in Portugal had a 2.1% growth compared to the same period last year, reaching 965.3 thousand tons, announced today the Portuguese Association of Construction and Public Works Industries (AICCOPN).

The association in the Construction Sector Economic Analysis states that, regarding the construction sector, AICCOPN claims that there is an improvement in most indicators related to its activity.
In this sense, in the first quarter of this year, in the public works market, there was "an increase of 32.9%, in homologous and temporally comparable terms, in the amount of construction contracts, signed and registered in the Base Portal, which totaled 794.4 million euros".
Regarding the area licensed by local authorities, in the first two months of this year, there was an 8% drop in residential buildings and a 21.5% drop in non-residential buildings, in homologous terms, he adds.
The licensing of new construction units in this period showed a 12.4% reduction, in homologous terms, for a total of 4,811 homes.
In February, the assessment of housing for bank credit purposes increased by 5.5% to 1560 euros/m2%, in homologous terms.
In this month, the construction cost index for new housing increased by 2.2%, in homologous terms, with a 0.7% drop in the materials component and a 6% growth in the labor component, concludes the analysis of the sector association.
