Cabo Verde urges state-owned company to correct shortcomings in domestic flights
The Cape Verdean government today urged the state-owned company TACV to "correct" the flaws that are causing the cancellation of flights in recent days, considering that the objective is "excellence" in air transport.

"Failures can happen, they should be corrected, we have to work to avoid them", answered the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Cape Verde, Olavo Correia, when questioned, in Praia, about the several flight cancellations by Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) this week.
In February, TACV, which only operated international flights, returned to inter-island flights and, since the end of April, it is the only one that operates domestic flights, after the departure of the Angolan company BestFly, which had the concession of Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (TICV) since 2021.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that there is already "a command" for the state-owned company to avoid recent failures.
The goal is to reach a "level of excellence" in the regularity and frequency of air transport in the archipelago.
So far, the company has not yet given any official explanation about what is behind the flight cancellations in recent days.
Asked about the costs of TACV's return to domestic flights, the minister said that inter-island connections can be made in a sustainable way and that there is no need for additional resources from the State.
"It is an operation that tends to be sustainable, we have a greater increase in demand for Cape Verde", he stressed, giving as an example the announcement, this week, by EasyJet for the start of 'low cost' flights to the archipelago from October.
Olavo Correia referred to the "coming days" to announce solutions.
"We are working with the utmost urgency, taking into account the critical aspect of domestic transport", he said.
