The Cabo Verde Civil Aviation Agency announced that the agreement is valid "for any type of aircraft and for passenger and cargo operations".

The understanding comes after a meeting in Praia between delegations from the agencies of the two countries, with the "common goal of further increasing capacity, so as to reflect the growing demand for air services between Hungary and Cabo Verde", whose capitals are separated by about 5,300 kilometres.

Cabo Verde's airport infrastructure underwent construction work in April (Sal, Praia, São Vicente airports and Maio airfield) following the concession to the multinational Vinci, which intends to bring more international flights to the archipelago.

The European low-cost airline Easyjet announced on Wednesday that it will start connecting the island of Sal and Portugal in October.

In April, during the visit to Praia by the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, the leader of the Cape Verdean Government, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said that the air agreement between the two countries will be revised.

Cape Verde's hotel establishments received one million guests in 2023, a new record, in line with the growth trend in the sector, which represents about a quarter of the annual wealth produced by the archipelago.

Meanwhile, domestic flights remain uncertain: the concessionaire (Bestfly) has closed operations in the archipelago and the state-owned Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) has leased planes from neighbouring Senegal to maintain connections, but has not been able to avoid recurrent cancellations.

On Friday, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Cape Verde, Olavo Correia, asked that the failures be "corrected", referring to the announcement of solutions in the coming days.
