Dubai government-owned Emirates announced revenue of $33 billion (30.6 billion euros), up from $29.3 billion (27.1 billion euros) the year before. Its profit for the year was $2.9 billion (2.69 billion euros).

The airline carried 51.9 million passengers in the 2023 financial year, compared with 43.6 million the year before.

"Throughout the year, we saw strong travel demand across our network and as we were able to quickly respond to changing customer preferences, we achieved some remarkable results," Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said in a statement.

"We are reaping the benefits of years of continued investment in our products and services, building strong partnerships, and empowering our talent," he added.

Emirates' results mirror those of its home base, Dubai International Airport.

The world's busiest airport for international travel handled 86.9 million passengers last year, surpassing its 2019 traffic before the pandemic paralysed global aviation.

In its busiest year ever before the pandemic, in 2018, the airport handled 89.1 million passengers.
