There are families who are losing their rent support because they are forced to sign new lease contracts, but this scenario should change in the coming weeks, since the Government is preparing an amendment to this measure that will allow them to continue to benefit from this aid even when they are 'forced' to sign new contracts. 

At issue, it should be recalled, is the fact that beneficiaries of rent support must have signed the contract by March 15, 2023. With this deadline, there are families losing the right to support because they are forced to sign a new contract, even if it is the landlord's wish.

However, according to Público, the Government will end the expiration of rent support for families that have to sign a new lease contract, but who remain in the same house and continue to meet the other requirements.

The Notícias ao Minuto has already tried to obtain more clarifications from a source of the guardianship, but until now it has not been possible to obtain an answer. 

The amendment should be included in the 'package' of housing measures that was presented at the end of last week by the Executive. 

It should be recalled that the extraordinary rent support is automatically granted to households with effort rates above 35% in the payment of housing rents and with incomes up to the sixth IRS bracket (which, in 2024, corresponds to a maximum of 39,791 euros per year).

The problem is that there is a rule that significantly limits the universe of beneficiaries, since only those who have lease contracts signed by March 15, 2023 are covered by the support.

This means that if a contract is signed after this date - even if it is the landlord's wish - families will not receive the aid to pay the rent. 

Public guarantee for home purchase by young people will have income and price limits

The newspaper Público also reports, this Tuesday, that the public guarantee to make housing credit viable should be aimed at young people up to 35 years old and will be subject to a maximum ceiling on the beneficiaries' income and on the price of the property acquired. 

The Government expects to approve this measure in the next 15 days.
