The Government is preparing to approve the location of the new airport this Tuesday at the Council of Ministers. The meeting is scheduled for 3:30 pm and will be chaired by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, according to a note sent to the newsrooms by the Executive leader's office. Later, the same office would confirm to Agência Lusa that Montenegro will address the country at 8 pm this Tuesday.
According to Expresso, the topic on the table will be the new airport infrastructure, which should be located in Alcochete, as Luís Marques Mendes announced on Sunday.
Contacted by Notícias ao Minuto, a government source initially indicated that there would be a briefing at the end of the meeting, but did not specify the time when it was scheduled to take place. The Notícias ao Minuto also asked about the topic of the meeting, but so far it has not been possible to obtain an answer. In the meantime, Luís Montenegro's office informed Agência Lusa that, after all, there will be no briefing after the Council of Ministers and that the Prime Minister will make a statement at 8 pm.
Political commentator Luís Marques Mendes revealed that a decision has already been made on the location of the new airport to serve the city of Lisbon: "I have it on good authority that the decision is the Alcochete firing range".
It should be recalled that the Independent Technical Commission (CTI) published on March 11 the final report of the environmental strategic assessment of the new airport, maintaining the recommendation of a single solution in Alcochete or Vendas Novas.
