"The recent path taken by the SATA [Board of Directors] group will end the social peace that is so valuable and that we have tried so hard to preserve, let's hope that the Regional Government, as a shareholder, has another vision and realizes that this is the worst path", warns Sintac in a statement.

That union warns that the situation may require "muscular action" by the workers.

"The failure to resolve this conflict will inevitably lead to muscular action by Sintac", reads the press release.

Sintac says that SATA "closed a deal" with the Union of Aviation and Workers (SITAVA) that "simulates a negotiation, disguising it as beneficial", but that "results in zero benefit for most workers".

According to Sintac, the agreement between the administration and SITAVA ensures an increase of "25% in overtime from the first hour" and the "payment of an additional 50% on holidays and some vacation days, which the worker can only enjoy if they do not miss work, even if justified".

"This agreement only gives a small return to those who do overtime and/or work on holidays. This means that to earn a little more, the worker has to sacrifice their rest time", it criticizes.

The union also emphasizes that "workers who do not do overtime and/or do not work on holidays do not have any salary increase" and warns that it does not accept the existence of "first and second class workers" in the company.

"Sintac does not endorse this agreement and will seek to negotiate real wage increases that are in line with other recent agreements in which some SATA group workers obtained substantial increases, well above the 2.9% that the company applied by management act to the tables", it concluded.

On May 2, SATA's administration co-opted financial director Carla Neto as administrator in order to ensure the "daily management" and restructuring of the group while "awaiting the appointment" of a new board.

The co-optation follows the departures of Teresa Gonçalves from the leadership of the SATA group and the administrator with the financial portfolio, Dinis Modesto.
