António Ferreira de Amorim, father of the current president of Corticeira, António Rios de Amorim, died this morning at the age of 95.

The news is being reported by ECO, with Notícias ao Minuto trying to confirm with a source close to the company.
"There are more than seven decades in the group, lived with dedication, passion for cork and respect for those in the field. A journey marked by unforgettable, funny, emotional or ingenious episodes", can be read in a text published on the Corticeira website in 2020, about António Ferreira de Amorim.
According to the same information released, António Ferreira de Amorim, the third son of Albertina and Américo Alves Amorim, started working in the group in the first half of the 20th century.
"It was 1949 and he had just finished his military service in Tavira, where he had been a Corporal. Before that, at the age of 14, he had already had his first contact with the family business, while studying at the Colégio S. Luís in Espinho and, later, at the Escola Académica do Porto, because he was curious to know what was going on behind the doors of Amorim & Irmãos", we can read.
Corticeira also adds that "of the four brothers involved in the development of the group (José, António, Américo and Joaquim), he was the one who spent the most time with the workers, with whom he lived with a high sense of humanity".
"He was always a man of action, of the field. Someone used to listening and speaking. Someone who liked to feel the pulse of the company from within. It is still like that today", concludes the same note.
